Melbourne racing driver Dylan Young has had a successful Round 2 of the 2018 MRF Challenge, highlighted by a strong podium finish.
Races 6-10 of the 2018 Championship were held at the Bahrain Formula 1 Circuit from December 6-8 and Young scored a strong third place podium in Race 2 of the weekend.
Young's strong run of results included a 3rd (Race 2), 4th (Race 5), 5th (Race 1) and 7th and 8th in Races 3-4, where he battled hard on an old set of tyres.
Alongside the podium in Race 2, it was Dylan's impressive drive in Race 5 that lit up the television screens, coming from 8th after a messy start through to 4th and just shy of a double podium with a number of daring moves through the field. He battled hard to fight his way past German Andreas Estner who sits third in the Championship standings with a number of wins to his name.
In Race 2, Dylan led for the opening three laps after a strong start off the line to jump into the lead by turn 1. However, he was displaced to 2nd after Brit Jamie Chadwick slipstreamed past him on Lap 3. Young then battled with Championship leader Max Defourny for the next two laps but was pushed back to 3rd place by the Belgian where he would stay until the chequered flag.
Young's impressive weekend was set up by a strong opening Race 1 where he made an aggressive move to steal 5th place on the last lap, passing Petr Ptacek from the Czech Republic.
"I'm really pleased to have such a strong weekend here in Bahrain," an excited Young said.
"I came out of Dubai knowing we had the pace to fight at the front for podiums but through some unlucky results on the final day in Dubai that didn't happen but I started the weekend strongly here in Bahrain and put my head down."
"I would have loved to have got the win in Race 2 but needed Jamie and Max found their way through in the first half of the race but I'm still really proud to stand on the podium in third place flying the Aussie flag!"
"The final race of the weekend was one of the most fun races I've had in a long time in a race car and it was really close at times to stealing another podium. It was awesome to finish a strong weekend with 4th place and a lot of fun battles!"
"I'd like to send a big thanks to my engineer Danny, my mechanics Les & Surendren, Dorky and all the MRF crew plus my amazing sponsors and backers. Finishing off the year in style like this, I hope it catches the eye of companies back in Australia to support my 2019 season!"
