Australian racing driver Dylan Young has announced he intends to bring his career back to Australia for the 2018 season to target a future Virgin Australia Supercars drive.
Young heads to India this weekend for the final round of the 2017/2018 MRF Challenge at the MMRT Circuit in Chennai from February 2-4.
Young is currently 6th in the Championship standings out of 19 drivers from across the globe, with a podium finish to his name from the opening round back in November at the Bahrain F1 Circuit.
Young has been racing in open wheelers internationally for his entire career with the goal initially being to reach Formula 1. However, he is looking to emulate Supercars stars Craig Lowndes, James Courtney and Will Davison who brought their careers back to Australia after lacking the financial backing for Formula 1.
Young has fielded offers from teams in Porsche Carrera Cup Australia, the Super 2 Dunlop Series and Australian GT. Young explained that with his MRF open wheeler season still running, Australian GT provides his best option for 2018.
“At this stage, with so much focus and energy put into this overseas campaign that has yet to finish, many seats in leading teams back in Australia are full but I have some great options to compete in Australian GT in front of me.”
“It’s been an amazing journey internationally and I feel it’s helped my development as a driver immensely by going up against such strong talent and guys who are currently in F1 and will be in the future. I’m not totally ruling out any options overseas for 2018 but at this stage I want to forge a long lasting career and racing in Australia can provide that. I hope given what I’ve achieved on the international stage that some brands or corporations will be able to get behind my vision and support me at a time when I need it most. Finally I want to thank all my partners and those who have been in my corner!”
Young is inviting anyone to contact him about partnership opportunities for the 2018 season and beyond in Australia as he chases a Virgin Australia Supercars career.
